Man faces 20 charges in arson investigation
On Tuesday, December 20, 2011, police arrested a man in connection with an arson investigation.
It is alleged that:
- on Monday, July 2, 2007, between 4:29 a.m. and 4:56 a.m., the accused set fire to several west-end homes,
- a total of $1,000,000 in damages were caused to multiple homes, garages, vehicles, and other structures in the area of Christie Pitts Park, between Shaw Street/Christie Street.
Dallas Rostant, 30, of Toronto, has been charged with:
1) nine counts of Arson: Disregard for Human Life,
2) nine counts of Arson: to Property,
3) Possession of Incendiary Material,
4) Theft Under $5,000.
The accused was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, room 101, at 10 a.m.
It is alleged that:

The accused is a personal support worker with the Kensington Long-Term Care Centre at 45 Brunswick Avenue.
It is alleged that:
- on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, the accused sexually assaulted an 88-year-old woman in a bathroom at the facility.

Police request assistance with a series of bank robberies across the GTA and Canada, Security camera images of suspects released
The Toronto Police Service is seeking the public's assistance identifying four suspects wanted in a series of armed robberies.
It is reported that:
- On Thursday, October 7, 2010, at 2:15 p.m., the first suspect entered a bank on Evans Avenue,
- the man indicated he had a gun and robbed the teller of a quantity of money,
He has been dubbed the Blue-Eyed Bandit.
It is further reported that:
- On Friday, October 16, 2009, at 9:55 a.m., a second suspect entered a bank on Steeles Avenue West,
- the man handed a note, containing computer instructions on how the teller could override the maximum withdrawal amount,
- he received a large quantity of money and fled the scene,
He has been dubbed the Smart bandit.
It is further alleged that:
- between December 3, 2010 and January 24, 2011, a third suspect robbed four banks in Toronto and Hamilton,
- the man handed the teller a note and indicated he was armed,
- he received a quantity of money and fled the scene,
He has been dubbed the January Bandit.
It is further reported that:
- a fourth suspect is responsible for 17 bank robberies across Canada,
- the accused started robbing banks in York Region,
- armed with a handgun, the man entered the banks, vaulting the counter before grabbing cash from the teller before taking off,
- in February 2011, the same man is also responsible for four bank robberies in Calgary before returning to Ontario.
He has been dubbed the Vaulter Bandit.

Public Safety Alert Suspicious incident, Security camera images of person of interest released
The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a suspicious incident.
It is reported that:
- on Monday, December 12, 2011, at 11 p.m., a man was seen following a woman into the washroom at Tim Hortons, 1094 Bloor Street West,
- the man and woman were inside the washroom for approximately 11 minutes where it appears an altercation occurred.
The man is described as 5'4-5'7, medium build with short, black hair. He was last wearing a red and dark-coloured winter jacket, with a cast/walking boot on his right foot.
The man is classified as a "Person of Interest."
Security camera images of him have been released.

On Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at 10 a.m., the Toronto Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police would like to invite the media to tour and interview at the Toronto North Collision Reporting Centre.
This will be a great opportunity to gain valuable media information and footage, prior to the first major snowfall.
It can be next-to-impossible to offer this assistance to the media with the centre handling upwards of 200 vehicle investigations on an extreme weather day.
Find out:
1) What are Collision Reporting Centers?
2) What is the law on reporting a collision under the Highway Traffic Act?
3) Are there dangers with trying to settle the collision privately?
4) Do you have to report to the collision to police?
Officers will be on hand to answer questions and provide some examples of what $1,000 of vehicle damage may look like.
Meet our community partners:
Accident Support Services International Limited, who are on site to facilitate an active partnership between police and the insurance industry in post-collision events.
Toronto Police Service Traffic Services, and its community partner CAA South Central Ontario, will also be on hand to promote safety, with the CAA Stranded Driver pocket guide and winter driving safety tips.
A Collision Reporting Centre is a facility created to help motorists report motor vehicle collisions. This service is currently available in a number of urban centers. No fees are charged.
Some exceptions to attending a Collision Reporting Centre:
1) Collisions involving injury or death
2) Criminal activity involved in collisions (e.g., impaired driving, stolen vehicle, assault)
3) Collisions involving a person who is uninsured or is a suspended driver
4) Collisions involving vehicles transporting dangerous goods
Without exception, towed vehicles must go directly to a Collision Reporting Centre.

Shelby Mazerolle, 16, was last seen on Saturday, December 18, 2011, at 6 p.m., in the Lakeshore Boulevard West/Royal York Road area.
