On Sunday, February 19, 2012, at 8 p.m., police responded to a call for a sexual assault in the Broadview Avenue/Cosburn Avenue area.

It is alleged that:

- a man met a woman in the downtown area and enticed her back to his apartment with promises of a modeling job

- once in the apartment, the man prevented the woman from leaving and sexually assaulted her

Monday, February 20, 2012, at 2:50 p.m., Errol Spooner, 33, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) Aggravated Sexual Assault,
2) Forcible Confinement,
3) Carry Concealed Weapon.

He was scheduled to appear in court at College Park, on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at 10 a.m., room 507.

Police believe there may be more victims.

On Saturday, February 18, 2012, police issued a news release requesting the public's assistance identifying a man wanted in a series of alleged break-and-enters.

It is alleged that:

- between December 1, 2011 and Thursday, February 16, 2012, the accused broke into nine apartment building units and stole a quantity of money, jewelry and other items.

On Saturday, February 18, 2012, at 8:33 p.m., Dallas James Richards, 23, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1. nine counts of Break-and-Enter
2. seven counts of Failing to Comply with a Probation Order

He appeared in court at Old City Hall on Sunday, February 19, 2012.

On Monday, February 13, 2012, the Toronto Police Service launched a one-week enforcement campaign, “Don’t Drive Distracted”.

Distracted driving poses a serious and growing danger to road safety in our community. The Toronto Police Service continues to take aim at all forms of distracted driving, including the irresponsible behaviour of drivers who engage in texting or making phone calls on their handheld devices.

During the seven-day campaign, which ended on Sunday, February 19, 2012, the Toronto Police Service issued:

1) 129 charges for a display screen visible to the driver (114 for 2011)
2) 1,705 charges for hand held communication device (2,226 for 2011)
3) 77 charges for hand held entertainment device (102 for 2011)
4) 121 charges were laid for careless driving (122 for 2011)

A total of 9,876 charges were laid in comparison to the 8,758 charges laid in the 2011 campaign.

Distracted driving refers to all forms of distracted or inattentive driving such as adjusting a vehicle's entertainment or GPS unit, eating and drinking, using a handheld device or viewing a DVD player or computer screen, etc. Drivers must realize that the true danger to public safety lies in the distraction, not the device.

The Toronto Police Service will continue its efforts to minimize the dangerous activity that distracted driving poses to all of the people who use Toronto’s roads, through continued education and enforcement.

Officers from the Hold Up Squad have arrested two men and one woman in connection with a series of robberies.

It is alleged that:

- between January 22, 2012 and January 31, 2012, the accused committed six armed robberies, with one of them armed with a handgun, at convenience stores

- they also committed five thefts of diamond rings at jewellery stores

- the crimes were committed in Toronto and one in Mississauga

On Wednesday, February 1, 2012, Ahmed Sualim, 19, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) six counts of Robbery while armed with firearm
2) five counts of Theft over

On Monday, February 20, 2012, Justin Michael Ferguson, 20, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) two counts of Theft Over
2) Robbery while armed with a firearm

Cindy Cerda, 20, of Toronto, was also arrested and charged with:

1) Theft Over

On Monday, February 20, 2012, 22 Division’s Major Crime Unit arrested a man in a four-month-long investigation into commercial break-and-enters within 22 Division.

It is alleged that:

- between October 9, 2011 and Monday, February 20, 2012, the accused broke into 31 commercial buildings

On Monday, February 20, 2012, at 4:55 a.m., David Roberts, 45, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1. 31 counts of Break and Enter
2. 25 counts of Failing to Comply with a Probation Order
3. 2 counts of Robbery
4. Theft Under $5000
5. Mischief Under $5000
6. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
7. Possession of Burglar Tools

He appeared in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 10 a.m.

On Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at 12:46 p.m., police responded to a shooting call at 31 Tapscott Road, at the Cut Creator barber shop.

As a result of the investigation, a number of search warrants were executed in Ottawa, Toronto and Orillia.

It is alleged that:

- three firearms, ammunition, drugs and stolen property were seized

- five people were charged; two additionally were charged with First Degree Murder

On Monday, February 20, 2012, two brothers, Christopher Perez, 22, and Kevin Perez, 27, both of Toronto, were charged with First Degree Murder.

They appeared in court at Old City Hall on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, 10 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing. It has been successful due in large part to the cooperation and assistance of members of the public who came forward from the outset.

The Toronto Police Service Homicide Squad would like to thank TPS 41 Division and 42 Division, The Gun and Gang Task Force, Ottawa Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police Orillia Detachment Central Region Crime Unit, and the OPP Central Tactics and Rescue Unit for their assistance with this investigation.

On Monday, February 20, 2012, the Gun and Gang Task Force executed a search warrant at a home on Denison Road.

It is alleged that:

- during the execution of the search warrant, a large quantity of cocaine, hashish, marijuana and ecstasy was seized

- also seized were a handgun and ammunition

It is further alleged that:

- a man was arrested prior to the execution of the search warrant and was arrested for Possession of a Firearm

3. Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession if Unauthorized

7. Possession of Proceeds of Crime
8. Possession for the Purpose Cocaine
9. Possession fro the Purpose Marijuana
10. Possession for the Purpose Controlled Substance
11. Possession for the Purpose Hashish (under)

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, room 103, 10 a.m.

On Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at 11 a.m., at 40 College Street, in the Grenville lobby, Detective Sergeant Dan Nielsen will update the media on charges in the homicide of Chris Thompson.

On Monday, February 20, 2012, at 3:59 p.m., police responded to an unknown trouble call at the parking garage at 325 Bogert Avenue.

Police attended and located two bodies in the stairwell of the parking garage, suffering from obvious gunshot wounds.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims have been identified as brothers Justin Waterman, 18, and Jerome Waterman, 22, both of Toronto.
