17-year-old boy faces 11 charges in firearm investigation, Tech 9mm machine gun, .22 calibre rifle and Titan .25 calibre handgun seized

On Wednesday, January 25, 2012, members of 31 Division's Major Crime Unit executed a search warrant in the Jane Street/Sheppard Avenue West area.

It is alleged that:

- police seized a Titan .25 calibre handgun, Feather Industry Inc .22 calibre automatic Rifle and Luger 9mm Tech 9 machine gun

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with:

1) three counts of Unauthorized possession of a firearm
2) three counts of Careless storage of a firearm
3) three counts of Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
4) Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
5) Careless Storage of Ammunition

The name of the accused cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Citizen assists in arrest of man facing voyeurism and mischief charges

On Saturday, January 28, 2012, police responded to a voyeurism call at Union Station, 55 Front Street.

It is alleged that:

- a woman was walking up the stairs to a train platform when the accused put a cell phone under the woman's skirt and took a photograph

- the act was witnessed by a citizen, who arrested the suspect and held him for police

Antonio Ruccia, 34, visiting from Italy, has been charged with:

1. Voyeurism for a Sexual Purpose
2. Mischief Interfere with Property

He appeared in court at Old City Hall on Sunday, January 29, 2012, room 101 at 10 a.m.

Missing woman, Charlotte Berner, 89

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance locating a missing woman.

Charlotte Berner, 89, was last spoken to on Monday, January 30, 2012, at 7:30 a.m., in the Culford Road/Lawrence Avenue West area.

She is described as white, 5’6", blue eyes and white, curly hair.

Police are concerned for her safety.

On Monday, January 30, 2012, at noon, at Toronto City Hall, in the Armoury Street/Chestnut Street area, the Toronto Cyclists Union will be hosting the Coldest Day of the Year Ride,

Cyclists will ride down University Avenue, from City Hall to Front Street, with free hot chocolate provided at the end courtesy of the Fairmont Royal York to warm up riders!

Officers from the Toronto Police Service will also be taking part.

The Toronto Police Service will be promoting online bicycle registration.

Homicide #6/2012

On Friday, January 27, 2012, at 6:35 p.m., police responded to a call for unknown trouble in the Chesley Avenue/Brock Avenue area.

It is reported that:

- police located a 41-year-old woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the body

The woman was taken to hospital and later died.

A post-mortem examination has yet to be scheduled.

The name of the victim is being withheld, pending notification of next-of-kin.

Operation Safe Commute, Starts Monday, January 30, 2012

On Monday, January 30, 2012, 14 Division officers will be initiating a zero tolerance enforcement campaign entitled “Operation – Safe Commute”.

The campaign will end on Sunday, February 5, 2012.

The daily commute in and out of Toronto involves approximately 1.2 million vehicles. All road-users share the responsibility of making this daily commute safe.

A safe and orderly commute, in and out of the city, contributes to a better quality of life for all citizens.

High traffic volumes contribute to reduced road safety as well as increased driver frustration, commute times, and congestion. Commuter frustration often results in aggressive driving, traffic signal violations, illegal parking and traffic gridlock.

Police and Parking Enforcement Officers in 14 Division will be paying special attention to infractions that impede the safe and orderly flow of traffic. They will focus on aggressive driving offences, prohibited turns and gridlock offences as well as No Stopping, No Standing and No Parking restrictions.

Road Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Here are some traffic tips to help promote a safe commute:

1) Plan your route and take your time
2) Pedestrians: be alert of your surroundings – be predictable and visible
3) Cyclists: follow all the rules of the road
4) Motorists: look for pedestrians before making a turn
5) Motorists: obey all traffic and parking regulations

Man wanted in robbery investigation, Security camera images of man released

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance with a robbery investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at 7 p.m., a man walked into a grocery store in the Dupont Street/Spadina Road area

- the man was armed with a large butcher knife

- the man stole a quantity of money and fled the scene

It is further reported that:

- on Thursday, August 19, 2010, at 1:45 p.m., the same man robbed the same store and stole a quantity of money

Police request assistance with voyeurism investigation, Update, YouTube video released

On Wednesday, January 25, 2012, the Toronto Police Service issued a news release regarding an update in a voyeurism investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at 8:55 p.m., a woman entered a washroom at Stacy Lecture Hall, at York University

- the woman noticed, in one of the washroom stalls, large shoes that appeared to belong to a man

- the woman exited the washroom and waited outside with a friend

- the woman activated the security alarm button

- the man exited the washroom and fled the scene

The suspect is described as brown, 21-23, 6’, 185 lbs., short, chinstrap beard, and a square jaw. He was last seen wearing dark-blue or black jeans, flat brown or dark-green shoes with beige soles and two lines down the side, a dark-grey hoodie with a black jacket over the top and carrying a dark brown or black backpack.

Man wanted in mischief/break-and-enter investigation, Security camera image of suspect released

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance identifying a suspect in a mischief/break-and-enter investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at 3:15 a.m., a man entered an apartment building on Oak Street

- the man used a brick to smash the large glass door in the main lobby, then enter the common areas of the building

- the man is also believed to be responsible for several break-and-enters in the area

The suspect is described as white, 20-25, 5’7”-5’10”, with short, dark hair and thick, bushy eyebrows. He was last seen wearing a black cloth coat, a black sweatshirt , a white undershirt showing at the collar, faded black denim jeans, and black runners with white accents.
