On Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at 2 p.m., at the Woodbine race track, 555 Rexdale Boulevard, north west parking lot, Superintendent Ron Taverner of 23 Division will speak to the media regarding the large number of vehicles taken off the roads so far during Project Spring Cleanup.

Traffic fatality #7/2012 Mount Pleasant Road/Stibbard Avenue, Man faces four charges in Impaired Driving Cause Death investigation

On Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at 2:32 a.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision on Mount Pleasant Road, at Stibbard Avenue.

It is alleged that:

- a 19-year-old man was driving a Land Rover Range Rover southbound on Mount Pleasant Road

- the vehicle left the roadway and struck a pole, causing the vehicle to break apart

- the driver suffered minor injuries

A 24-year-old male passenger in the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, Oliver Karafa, 19, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1. Criminal Negligence Cause Death
2. Impaired Driving Cause Death
3. Dangerous Driving Causing Death
4. Over 80 mgs Causing Death

He is scheduled to appear in court at College Park, on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, room 501, at 2 p.m.

Missing man, Thomas Duffin, 56

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance locating a missing man.

Thomas Duffin, 56, was last seen on Monday, April 2, 2012, at 11:30 a.m., in the Brimorton Drive/Linville Road area.

He is described as white, 5’10”, 160 lbs., balding with light, curly, brown hair, and a salt-and-pepper coloured goatee. He wears glasses.

He is believed to be driving an older burgundy Mazda with Ontario licence plate BHMF 795.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Man and woman face eight charges in robbery investigation, Photographs of man and woman released

On Tuesday, March 13, 2012, the Toronto Police Service issued a news release regarding a purse-snatching investigation.

It is alleged that:

- between February 2012 and March 2012, in the Dundas Street West and Rusholme Road area, a woman would whistle to her accomplice when she saw a woman walking

- the man would approach the victim from behind, grab the victim's purse from her shoulder and push the victim to the ground

Adam Canali, 22, of Brampton, has been charged with:

1) three counts of Robbery
2) three counts of Fail to comply Recognizance

Sandy Moniz, 36, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) two counts of robbery

Police believe there may be more victims.

Police request assistance with personal injury collision, Finch Avenue West/Driftwood Avenue

On Monday, April 2, 2012, police responded to a call for a personal injury collision on Finch Avenue West, at Driftwood Avenue.

It is reported that:

- On Monday, April 2, 2012, at 5:55 a.m., a 44-year-old woman was driving a 2008 Pontiac eastbound on Finch Avenue West, in the curb lane

- a 47-year-old woman was on the south side of Finch Avenue West and attempted to cross to the north side of the street

- the woman was struck by the car

The woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Fugitive arrested

On Friday, March 30, 2012, at 2:45 p.m., the Toronto Police Service Fugitive Squad arrested a man wanted by the Polk County (Wisconsin) Sheriff’s Department.

Michael Chamandy, 50, is a Canadian citizen with permanent resident status in the United States.

it is alleged that:

- the accused was being investigated for a robbery at a convenience store where a pursuit occurred

- the accused rammed a police car at a road block injuring a Polk County Sheriff

- the accused was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder, Reckless Endangerment, Attempting to Flee or Elude an Officer, Felony Criminal Damage, Operating while Intoxicated, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and Possession of a short Barreled Shotgun or Rifle

- the accused was found guilty of Reckless Endangerment, Operating a Vehicle while Intoxicated and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, however he fled before sentencing

- the accused entered Canada on November 13, 2010, from the United States and took up residence in the Black Creek Drive/Trethewey Drive area

With the assistance of the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, 12 Division, and the Toronto Fugitive Squad, Michael Chamandy, 50, was arrest without incident.

He is presently being held in the West Detention Centre awaiting extradition.

Man faces three charges in aggravated assault investigation

On Saturday, March 31, 2012, police arrested a man in connection with an aggravated assault investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at 3:30 a.m. two groups of men, not known to each other, were in a parking lot in the Dupont Street/Dufferin Street area

- one of the men from one group became involved in a fight with a man from the second group

- the accused then used a baseball bat to hit the victim

- the accused then fled the scene

The victim was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

Sinan Hazan, 19, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Aggravated Assault
2) Assault with a Weapon
3) Weapons Dangerous

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, room 111, at 11 a.m.

Sexual Assault Alert, Richmond Street/York Street area. Man wanted

The Toronto Police Service is alerting the public to a sexual assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Sunday, April 1, 2012, at midnight, an 18-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by a man in the Richmond Street/York Street area.

The suspect is described as white, 25, 6'1", muscular build, blue eyes with dark-brown hair. He was last seen wearing a blue hoodie and black jeans.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance locating a missing man.

Igor Nzokirishaka, 25, was last seen on Friday, March 30, 2012, at 2 p.m., in the Sheppard Avenue East/Don Mills Road area.

He is described as black, 5’7"-5’10", 180-200 lbs., with black receding short hair and a goatee. He was last seen wearing a black jacket with a hood, blue jeans and brown Timberland boots.

Police are concerned for his safety.
