For the fourth year, the Black Community Police Consultative Committee (BCPCC) will host its popular event, "The Great Debate," on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at the Ontario Federation of Labour at 15 Gervais Drive. The event invites students from all over Toronto to participate in a debate. Our goal is to show black youth ways that they can positively engage in their community and use debating skills to express their differences of opinions.

The BCPCC mandate is to work together with the Toronto Police Service, (TPS), in an advisory capacity, to promote and advocate for competent, equitable policing and safe communities.

The Great Debate is an initiative that brings police officers and youth together to accomplish the following goals:

- improve the debating skills of youth
- give students the opportunity to practise their public-speaking skills
- bridge the divide between police and students

The Great Debate will run from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Students will participate in mini-debates at 10:45 a.m. and the main debate will be held at 1:20 p.m.

Approximately 80 students are expected to participate this year. Senior TPS officers will be in attendance.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance locating a missing woman.

Cathy Rocha, 75, was last seen on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at 8 a.m., in the French Avenue/Jane Street area.

She is described as white, 5’2”, 120 lbs., with grey/black short hair worn in four pony tails. She was last seen wearing a black winter jacket, black fur hat, black running shoes and glasses.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Police say that a security officer shot and killed an armed teenager Friday night in southwest Atlanta.

Officers identified the teen as Kenard Arnold, 17, of Atlanta, who died at the scene after being shot in the back, officials said.

The shooting happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. at the De Lane Court Condominiums at 1867 Myrtle Drive, Atlanta police spokeswoman Ms. Kim Jones said.

Investigators said Mr. Arnold was firing a gun in the direction of another man when a security officer from the area drove up at the location.

The security officer fired his weapon, hitting Mr. Arnold once in the back, Ms. Jones said.

The teen ran for a short distance before collapsing and dying at the parking lot, Ms. Jones said.

It was unclear Saturday if the security guard said anything to the teen before firing his gun. It was also unclear why the teen was shooting at the man who police have not yet been able to identify.

Police are still investigating this shooting and has not said if there will be any charges filed.
