Two men face five charges in marijuana investigation
On Tuesday, February 14, 2012, members of the Toronto Police Clandestine Laboratory Unit executed a search warrant at an apartment building on Lakeshore Boulevard West.
It is alleged that:
- police and fire responded to a call for a fire in an apartment on the 7th floor
- police discovered a soil-based marijuana grow-operation
- police seized 84 marijuana plants, dry marijuana and growing equipment, valued at $200,000
Trevor Wilson, 40, of Toronto, has been charged with:
1) Produce Marijuana
2) Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in Marijuana
Stephen Jones, 29, of Toronto, has been charged with:
1) Produce Marijuana
2) Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in Marijuana
3) Mischief Endangering Life
Marijuana grow-operations within highrise buildings are particularly concerning because they put a large number of residents at risk with the possibility of fire, water leaks and chemical exposure.
The Toronto Police Service wants to remind the public to be alert for marijuana grow-operations in their community.

Teacher faces two charges in sexual assault investigation
On Wednesday, February 15, 2012, police arrested a man in connection with a sexual assault investigation.
It is alleged that:
- on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, a school teacher from Eastdale Collegiate Institute, 701 Gerrard Street East, sexually assaulted a 17-year-old female student.
Nachhatar Singh, 56, of Oakville, has been charged with:

2) Sexual Exploitation

Public Safety Alert, Police request assistance with theft investigation
The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a theft investigation.
It is reported that:
- at the beginning of February 2012, in the GTA, a woman was going door-to-door, advising homeowners of an emergency
- she told the homeowners that she needed to use their telephone
- once inside the home, the woman stole valuables from the home and then fled the scene
The suspect is described as white, 40, 5’5”, small-to-medium build, blue eyes with long blond hair.

TPS offers opportunity for community input with online polling
To expand the opportunities for community input, the Toronto Police Service includes online polling on its website.
Questions are posted on various policing issues and the results published at the end of the period. Results from previous polls are also available. A new poll began on Monday, February 13, 2012, asking the following questions:
Do you strongly agree, agree, disagree, or strongly disagree that, in general, you think CCTV cameras in public places are a good idea?
Do you strongly agree, agree, disagree, or strongly disagree that CCTV cameras invade people’s privacy?
How effective do you believe CCTV cameras are, or would be, at reducing crime in your neighbourhood?
The TPS is encouraging the people of Toronto to visit the Have your say section of the TPS website and provide the Service with their opinions.

Fugitive arrested, Rustem Turnsunbayev, 49
On Friday, February 10, 2012, at 8:32 a.m., the Toronto Fugitive Squad and the Canada Border Services Agency arrested a wanted man.
Rustem Turnsunbayev, 49, was wanted on an Immigration Warrant. He is wanted in Kazakhstan for allegations of Expropriation of Embezzlement of Trusted Property, in excess of 3 billion Kazakhstan dollars.
It is alleged that:
- he entered Canada in July 2009 as a permanent resident and that he has been living in the GTA since entering Canada

Missing girl, Carissa Balkissoon 14
The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance locating a missing girl.
Carissa Balkissoon, 14, was last heard from on Sunday, February 12, 2012, somewhere in the GTA.
She is described as brown, 5’2”, 134 lbs., brown eyes with long, wavy black hair. She was last seen wearing grey pants, black shoes and a brown jacket.
Police are concerned for her safety.

On Thursday, February 9, 2012, Victor Szabo, 36, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:
1) Break and Enter with intent
2) two counts of Prowl by night
3) two counts of Mischief Under $5,000
4) two counts of Mischief interfere with property
5) two counts of Voyeurism
He is scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West, on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at 1 p.m., room 301.

Woman faces five charges in theft-from-mail investigation
On Tuesday, January 31, 2012, with the assistance of Canada Post, police arrested a woman in a theft-from-mail investigation.
It is alleged that:
- the accused was an employee of the Canada Post Corporation
- on Monday, January 30, 2012, the accused was under surveillance by Canada Post security
- the accused was seen stealing mail that contained gift cards
Geraldine Hollick, 64, of Toronto, has been charged with:
1) Criminal Breach of Trust
2) Theft from mail
3) Possession Property obtained by Crime
4) Open mail unlawfully
5) Open mail unlawfully
Police and Canada Post are encouraging the public not to mail cash.
