Armored Car Guard Killed During Robbery

Miami Gardens Fla An armored truck guard was fatally shot Sunday afternoon as he made a scheduled stop at the Calder Casino and Race Course in Miami Gardens.

The Brinks guard was apparently shot as he walked out of the casino about 5 p.m., WFOR-Ch. 4 reported.

The FBI released a photograph late Sunday of a car believed to have been involved in the robbery. A gray sedan was found in the parking lot of the Walmart store at 19501 NW 27th Ave., where police believe the suspects spotted the armored truck. They then stole a pick-up truck from the parking lot and followed the Brinks vehicle to Calder, police said.

Surveillance video from the track shows a man walking toward the casino. After the robbery, the man jumped into the pickup truck, which police found later at El Palacio Sports Hotel, at the corner of 27th Avenue and County Line Road. Investigators said they believed three people were involved in the robbery.

The guard was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center where he died. Police did not say whether the robbers got away with any money from the casino at 21001 NW 27th Ave.

Investigators asked anyone with information about the vehicle or the robbery to call the FBI at 305-944-9101.
