Man wanted in shooting investigation, Cordell Cartledge, 18, Update, Judicial authorization to publish photograph expired, Young Offender photograph removed

On Thursday, October 13, 2011, the Toronto Police Service issued a news release regarding a man wanted in connection with a shooting investigation.

Judicial authorization to release a Young Offender photograph of the accused has now expired. That authorization prohibits the publication of the photograph of the accused, which was taken when he was a Young Offender, after 5 p.m., on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.

It is alleged that:

- on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at 2:11 p.m., at 55 Bishop Tutu Boulevard, an 18-year-old man confronted a 23-year-old man over a parking spot

- a fight ensued and a 21-year-old man pulled out a handgun

- on the instructions of the 18-year-old man, the 21-year-old man fired a shot at the 23-year-old man, grazing him

On Saturday, July 30, 2011, the alleged shooter, Thomas Alcott, 21, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) Point Firearm,
2) Discharge firearm endanger life,
3) Weapons Dangerous,
4) Carry Concealed Weapon,
5) Conspiracy to commit indictable offence.

Cordell Cartledge, 18, of Toronto, is wanted for:

1) Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence

He is described as black, 6’1”, 230 lbs., with dark hair in cornrows.

He is considered armed and dangerous.

Fire-related death investigation

On Monday, October 17, 2011 at approximately 11 p.m., police were called to a fire in the Wilson Heights/Sheppard Avenue West area.

It is reported that:

- a 42-year-old man died following a fire inside his apartment

The incident is currently under investigation by the Toronto Police Service and the Office of the Fire Marshal.

Traffic fatality #28/2011

On Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at approximately 5:50 a.m., police responded to a serious personal injury collision on Wilson Avenue, west of Allingham Gardens.

It is reported that:

- a 45-year-old man was crossing from the south side of Wilson Avenue to the north side, mid block, west of Allingham Gardens

- a mini-van was travelling westbound on Wilson Avenue in the curb lane

- the mini-van collided with the pedestrian, throwing him several metres

- the man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries

- several hours later, he succumbed to his injuries

Three men face seven charges in mischief investigation

On Monday, October 17, 2011, police arrested three men in connection with a mischief investigation.

It is alleged that:

- the accused, carrying paint and spray cans, climbed on the roof of a building on Queen Street West

- the accused painted the letters "SUD" on the building

- the accused had intended to paint the word "SPUD" but were interrupted

- police were contacted by a citizen and the three men were arrested

Jonathan Lupi, 24, of Toronto, has been charged with:

Nathanial Rooyakkers, 29, of Toronto, has been charged with:
1) Mischief under
2) Mischief under
3) Prowl by night

Shane Rumohr, 31, of Toronto, has been charged with:
1) Prowl by night
2) Mischief under

They are scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, room 111, at 11 a.m.

Man faces three charges in alleged theft of truck and cigarettes, Victor Annan, 24

On Thursday, September 29, 2011, a man reported a robbery to police.

It is alleged that he reported:

- while driving his employer's 10-ton delivery truck, he was pulled over by a police officer, under the pretext of conducting a vehicle inspection,

- while pulled over, he was kidnapped by three masked men,

- the men took him into Durham region where he was eventually released,

- his truck, containing approximately $415,000 of cigarettes, was stolen

As a result of an investigation, it is further alleged that:

- the victim admitted having lied about the involvement of a police officer,

- no kidnapping took place,

- the theft had been planned,

The truck was later found emptied of its contents.

On Wednesday, October 12, 2011, Victor Annan, 24, of Markham, was arrested.

He is charged with:

1) Theft over ($5,000),
2) Obstruct Peace Officer,
3) Public mischief.

He is scheduled to appear in court at a future date.

Man faces six charges in drug investigation

On Monday, October 17, 2001, at 3:18 p.m., TAVIS Rapid Response Team officers were conducting proactive enforcement on Dawes Road.

It is alleged that:

- officers stopped a car and investigated the driver,

- officers seized a quantity of marijuana and a stun gun from the car,

- police also seized a butterfly knife, a flick knife and an expandable baton.

Jason Gladu, 27, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Possession for the Purpose Marijuana,
2) Possession of Marijuana,
3) Weapons Dangerous,
4) Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon,
5) Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon,
6) Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.

He was scheduled to appear in court, at Old City Hall, on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at 9 a.m.

Police request assistance with arson investigation

Between Saturday, October 15, 2011 and Monday, October 17, 2011, police responded to several calls for a possible fire/arson on Gerrard Street East, between Yonge Street/Sherbourne Street.

It is reported that:

- on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at 11:40 p.m., a garbage can was set on fire in front of 87 Gerrard Street East,

- a recycling bin was also set on fire at the rear of 70 Gerrard Street East,

- another garbage bin was set on fire at the rear of 40 Gerrard Street East.

It is also reported that:

- on Sunday, October 16, 2011, at 2 a.m., a dumpster was set on fire beside 20 Gerrard Street East.

It is further reported that:

- on Monday, October 17, 2011, at 1:30 a.m., a garbage bin was set on fire at the rear of 160 Gerrard Street East.

- on Monday, October 17, 2011, at 11:18 p.m., a recycling bin was set on fire in front of 44 Gerrard Street East.

It is believed that the same man is responsible for all six incidents.

The suspect is described as male, white, 20-25, 5’5”-5’8”, thin build with medium-to-long wavy hair. He was last seen wearing dark clothing, a dark puffy vest with a hat or hoodie.

Robbery on YONGE STREET AND GLOUCESTER STREET, Toronto, ON (via spotcrime.com)

A 25 year old male was approached from behind by two male suspects. One of the suspects produced a knife and made a demand for property.

A 15 year old male reports that two male suspects followed him into an elevator. Once inside, the suspects demanded that the victim empty his pockets.
