Young Offender faces four charges in firearm investigation, Sawed-off shotgun seized, photograph released

On Wednesday, November 30, 2011, members of the 31 Division, supported by the Emergency Task Force, acting on information supplied by the community, executed a search warrant at a townhouse in the Sheppard Avenue West/Jane Street area.

Investigation led police to believe this residence was being used as a private daycare for the neighbouring area.

It is alleged that:

- police located an easily accessible sawed-off shotgun, hidden within a wall

A 17-year-old boy was arrested for:

1) Unauthorized Possession of a firearm
2) Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
3) Firearm careless storage
4) Possession of property obtained by crime

The accused was scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at 10 a.m.

The name of the accused cannot be released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Man faces 11 charges in firearm investigation, Loaded .25 calibre Colt pistol seized, photograph released

On Wednesday, November 30, 2011, members of the 31 Division, supported by the Emergency Task Force, acting on information supplied by the community, executed a search warrant at a townhouse in the Sheppard Avenue West/Jane Street area.

It is alleged that:

- the accused threw a small, loaded semi-automatic handgun and a quantity of crack cocaine from a window upon police arriving

- police then seized a .25 calibre Colt pistol loaded with eight rounds of ammunition

- police also seized a quantity of further ammunition, a quantity of crack cocaine, money and drug paraphernalia

Cjay Hobbs, 18, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Unauthorized possession of a firearm
2) Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
3) Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
4) Careless Storage Ammunition
5) Careless Storage firearm
6) Possession of firearm contrary to prohibited order
7) Possession of ammunition contrary to prohibited order
8) Fail to comply Recognizance
9) Fail to comply probation
10) Possession for the Purpose of Cocaine
11) Possession of Proceeds of Crime

The accused was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, room 101, at 10 a.m.

Police request assistance with theft investigation

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance with a theft investigation.

It is reported that:

- between Saturday, November 26, 2011 and Sunday, November 27, 2011, between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m., a suspect(s) broke into a vehicle parked on Millwood Road, in the Eglinton Avenue East/Bayview Avenue area

- the suspect(s) stole a grey/silver Sony MiniDV camcorder, model TRV900, in a blue case

- the suspect(s) also stole a InFocus video projection machine

- the camcorder contains a mini DV tape with footage of Jenna Morrison, dancing with her son. Ms. Morrison was killed in a crash on Monday, November 7, 2011.

On Wednesday, November 30, 2011, between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m., 42 Division will be kicking off Project Rope. Officers will be riding TTC buses and speaking with riders about safety concerns regarding cellphones and other small handheld electrical devices and the theft of them.

TTC riders are being targeted either while waiting to board a bus, or on exiting the bus. Suspects are grabbing the device out of the hands of the users or asking for the time to lure the victim into taking out one of these devices at which time the suspect will grab the device and flee.

Officers will be using this opportunity to provide riders with safety tips to protect their personal property and enhance their awareness of crime prevention.

Since August 2011, numerous reports of thefts from vehicles have been investigated by police in 22 Division, in residential areas bounded by the Humber River, Eglinton Avenue West, Kipling Avenue and Bloor Street West.

On Thursday, November 15, 2011, a fifth person was arrested. Ryan Teek, 34, of Toronto, was charged with:

1. 20 counts of Theft Under
2. Attempt Theft Under
3. eight counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under

On Monday, December 5, 2011 and Tuesday, December 6, 2011, from 5 p.m., to 9 p.m., at the Toronto Police College, 70 Birmingham Avenue, a quantity of property seized during the thefts from vehicles will be on display to try to identify the owners.

Police are asking anyone who has had their vehicle broken into and property taken within 22 Division to attend a viewing. Please come prepared with police report numbers and/or descriptions/photographs of any stolen items.

Homicide #42/2011, Leanne Freeman, 23, Update, Photograph and name of victim released, Post-mortem examination results released

On Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at 1:12 a.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision in the Unwin Avenue/Leslie Street area.

The victim has been identified as Leanne Freeman, 23, of Winnipeg.

A post-mortem examination determined the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the body.

Day 5 : Toronto Police Holiday R.I.D.E. Statistics 2011

The 2011 Toronto Police Service Holiday R.I.D.E. (Reducing Impaired Drivers Everywhere) initiative is out in full force. As of Tuesday, November 29, 2011, 37 spot checks have been conducted.

Statistics capture police activity from November 24-28 (2011) representing Day 1 to 5

- 6,307 vehicles were stopped during R.I.D.E. spot checks
- 179 roadside test administered
- 17 arrests for drinking and driving offences
- 19 warn range suspensions have been issued
- 31 vehicles have been impounded

Toronto Police urge drivers to make the right choices this holiday season. Make alternative arrangements before heading out. We want to see everyone make it home safely this year.

“To protect the community we so proudly police, we are committed to taking as many lawbreakers off our roads at these spot checks,” said Constable Wendy Johnston, Toronto Police Ride Coordinator.

Young Offender charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm

On Monday, November 28, 2011, police started an assault investigation in the Yonge Street/Dundas Street East area.

It is alleged that:

- between Saturday, November 26, 2011 and Sunday, November 27, 2011, between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m., a 35-year-old woman was assaulted by three girls,

The victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

On Tuesday, November 29, 2011, a 15-year-old girl was arrested and charged with:

1) Assault Causing Bodily Harm.

She is scheduled to appear in court at 311 Jarvis, on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, room 1, at 10 a.m.

The name of the accused cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
