Media advisory, Thursday, November 24, 2011, 11 a.m., 205 Humber College Boulevard, 2011 Holiday R.I.D.E. Campaign Launch
On Thursday, November 24, 2011, at 11 a.m., the 2011 Holiday R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Campaign Launch will take place at Humber College, North Campus, 205 Humber College Boulevard.
Superintendent Earl Witty said, The Holiday Season is a time for families, friends and our communities to enjoy all that life has to offer. Unfortunately there are some people who just dont get the message and make the poor choice to drink and drive. By not choosing to drive sober, these drivers are continually putting themselves and other innocent persons in jeopardy.
"The best gift that a driver can give this Holiday Season is to not drink and drive, to arrive home safe and to not have anyones life devastated by their irresponsibility.
"This is a season of celebration, and we should not have to ask a police officer, firefighter, paramedic, family member or friend to advise anyone that a loved one has been injured or is not coming home at all, due to the actions of an intoxicated driver."
Representatives from the following police services will be attending the launch: Toronto Police Service, Durham Regional Police Service, York Regional Police, Halton Regional Police Service, Peel Regional Police, South Simcoe Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police.
All participating police agencies will be conducting a R.I.D.E. spot-check on Humber College Boulevard, immediately following the kick-off ceremony.
Officers will be available to speak with the media.
