Two men and one woman face 70 charges in firearm investigation, Guns/drugs seized

In January 2012, the Toronto Drug Squad started a drug investigation in the west end of Toronto. On Tuesday, February 7, 2012, police executed search warrants on two homes in the Royal York Road/The Queensway area.

It is alleged that:

- police seized a quantity of cocaine, marijuana and cash

- police also seized a semi-auto handgun, a shotgun, two military-type rifles, 2,538 rounds of ammunition and a 2008 Acura TL.

Johnathan Murphy, 22, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) four counts of Traffic in Cocaine
2) two counts of Possession for the Purpose of Cocaine
3) six counts of Possession of Proceeds
4) two counts of Possession for the Purpose of Marijuana
5) four counts of Possession of Firearm Unauthorized
6) four counts of Possession of Unregistered/Restricted Weapon
7) three counts of Possession Prohibited Device
8) Possession Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
9) four counts of Careless Storage of Firearm
10) two counts of Careless Storage Ammunition
11) four counts of Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
12) three counts of Possession of Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order

Missing woman, Lucille Liddell, 69

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance locating a missing woman.

Lucille Liddell, 69, was last seen on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at 9:35 a.m., in the Hwy 401/Brimley Road area,

She is described as black, 5’2”, 130 lbs., with short black hair. She was last seen wearing a rust-brown winter jacket, grey slacks, brown running shoes and carrying a black purse.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Sexual assault alert, Man wanted

The Toronto Police Service would like to alert the public to a sexual assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at approximately 8:45 a.m., a 13-year old girl was walking in the Pharmacy Avenue/Ellesmere Road area

- a man approached the woman from behind and sexually assaulted her

- he then fled the area

The man is described as approximately 30, 5'10", with an olive complexion, unkempt appearance, and crooked yellow teeth. He was wearing a black nylon coat with a fur-trimmed hood.

Public Safety Alert, Attempt abduction

The Toronto Police Service would like to alert the public to an attempt abduction investigation.

On Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at 6 p.m., police were called to the College Street/Dovercourt Road area.

It is alleged that:

- a 10-year old boy was walking westbound on College Street, from Dovercourt Road,

- near 961 College Street, a man approached the boy, took hold of his wrists, and attempted to pull him from the area

- the boy screamed and was able to escape the man's hold.

The man is described as white, 6', with blond sideburns, a skull tattoo on his right cheek, smoking a cigarette. He was wearing a blue-and-white baseball cap, a red jacket, camouflage cargo pants, brown sandals, and white socks.

Man faces three charges in robbery investigation, Second suspect sought, Security camera images released

On Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at 3:20 p.m., police responded to a call for a robbery at a cell phone store in the Lansdowne Avenue/Bloor Street West area.

It is alleged that:

- two men entered the store

- one man, now arrested, pulled a knife and put it to the victim's back

- the men stole the victim's BlackBerry and wallet

- the men threatened the victim

- the men stole several other cell phones and fled the scene

On Wednesday, September 7, 2011, Jamie Richards, 21, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) Robbery
2) Forcible Confinement
3) Weapons Dangerous

Police are attempting to identify the second man involved in the robbery.

Man faces 10 charges in firearm investigation, Loaded handgun seized

On Monday, February 6, 2012, police arrested a man in connection with a firearm investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Monday, February 6, 2012, at 1:54 a.m., officers from Gun and Gang Task Force executed a search warrant at a home in the Keele Street/Eglinton Avenue West area

- police seized a Firestar .45 calibre pistol and two rounds of .45 calibre ammunition.

Jason Thomas, 30, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
2) Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
3) Unauthorized possession of a firearm
4) Firearm careless storage
5) Careless Storage Ammunition
6) Possession of firearm obtained by the commission of an offence
7) Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order
8) Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order
9) Possession for the Purpose Marijuana
10) Possession for the Purpose Marijuana

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Monday, February 6, 2012, room 101, at 10 a.m.

Operation Safe Commute

On Sunday, February 5, 2012, 14 Division concluded its week long enforcement campaign, “Operation – Safe Commute." This traffic safety campaign focused on aggressive driving offences, prohibited turns and gridlock offences as well as No Stopping, No Standing and No Parking restrictions.

- Parking Offences: 130

An additional, 6295 parking offences were issued by Parking Enforcement for interfering with the safe and efficient flow of traffic within 14 Division.

On Monday, February 6, 2012, police arrested a man in connection with a firearm investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Monday, February 6, 2012 officers from the Gun and Gang Task Force executed a search warrant at 45 Wynford Heights Cresent

- police seized a quantity of powder cocaine, crack cocaine, two sets of weigh scales and cash

- police also seized a loaded .25 Cal Lorcin pistol and ammunition

Calvin Prosser, 18, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Unauthorized possession of a firearm
2) Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
3) Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
4) Careless storage of a firearm
5) Careless Storage Ammunition
6) Possession of firearm obtained by the commission of an offence

Two men face four charges in marijuana investigation, $200,000 in marijuana seized

On Monday, February 6, 2012, members of the Toronto Police Clandestine Laboratory Unit executed a search warrant at an apartment building in the Don Mills Road/Overlea Boulevard area.

It is alleged that:

- police discovered a soil-based Marijuana Grow Operation

- 171 marijuana plants, dry marijuana and growing equipment was seized with a street value of approximately $200,000

Robert Surge, 29, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Produce Marijuana
2) Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in Marijuana charges

Stephen Jones, 29, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Produce Marijuana
2) Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in Marijuana charges

Marijuana-grow operations within highrise buildings are particularly concerning because they put a large number of residents at risk with the possibility of fire, water leaks and chemical exposure.

The Toronto Police Service wants to remind the public to be alert for marijuana grow-operations in their community.
