Hugh Grant on prostitute charge
Hugh Grant, the British star of the film Four Weddings and a Funeral, was arrested in Hollywood yesterday and charged with indecent conduct with a prostitute in a public place after meeting her on Sunset Boulevard.
Grant, 34, whose girlfriend is Elizabeth Hurley, the actress, was arrested by vice squad police, who alleged that he drove up to a prostitute at about 1.30 am.
Officer Lorie Taylor, of Los Angeles Police, said: “Grant was observed to drive a vehicle up to a prostitute and allow her to enter. They drove a short distance to a residential street and engaged in lewd conduct.
“Vice officers walked up on the car and observed the act. Both the prostitute, described by police as a black woman named Divine Brown, 23, and Grant were taken into custody,” said Officer Taylor.
Officer Cory Palka said Grant was “extremely embarrassed” when the two officers introduced themselves, but was “very nice and very co-operative”.
Grant was released on bail. He and Brown, who was charged with soliciting, are due to to appear in court on July 18.
Eduardo Funes, a police spokesman, said that Grant would not have to appear. He could be represented by a lawyer.
“It’s a misdemeanor charge, which carries a custodial sentence,” he said. “You could be sent to jail for up to six months or have a $ 1,000 fine, or both.
“It’s up to the judge. It depends on whether there is a track record.”
The area in which police allege that Grant stopped is a notorious haunt of prostitutes, both male and female. It is also heavily patrolled by undercover police.
After his arrest, he said: “I did something completely insane. I have hurt people I love and embarrassed people I work with. For both things I am more sorry than I can say.”
A friend of Grant’s said last night: “This all seems very odd. It doesn’t seem at all like Hugh.”
Grant, one of the film industry’s most in-demand actors, is in Hollywood to promote his new film Nine Months, advertised on posters along Sunset Boulevard.
Yesterday’s press conference about Nine Months was canceled abruptly, although some journalists had flown in from as far away as Britain for it.
Grant, who read English at New College, Oxford, before becoming an actor, won the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Golden Globe award this year for Four Weddings and a Funeral.
He was virtually unknown outside Britain until he was cast opposite Andie MacDowell in that film, which was nominated for an Academy Award for best picture.
Known for his beguiling smile and self-deprecating wit, Grant is now starring in The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain.
After minor roles in repertory, Grant wrote and performed in satirical revues before James Ivory, the film director, spotted him and cast him in Maurice, an adaptation of E M Forster’s sombre novel about homosexual lovers.
He later appeared in Remains of the Day and Bitter Moon before being picked for Four Weddings and a Funeral, a low-budget production that turned out to be Britain’s highest earning film and helped to turn him into an international star.

Sean Young Claims She Is INNOCENT In Oscar After-Party Arrest!
Although Sean Young has been known to drink too much and get herself into trouble at Award ceremonies, she has come forward to claim that her latest arrest outside of the Governor’s Ball – after which she got physical with a security guard when she didn’t have a ticket to attend – was by no fault of her own!
“I just want everyone to know that I was sober, extremely well behaved when a very stupid security guard went postal on me and then The Academy’s very stupid lawyer recommended a ‘private person’s arrest’ and I have grounds for a lawsuit against the Academy although I believe a public apology to me would be much better. I am OK and I have the Hollywood Police Stations support who very carefully and kindly photographed the bruises on my arms which this guard is responsible for doing.”
Well yes, but you were still booked on misdemeanor battery charge and released on $ 20,000 bail, gurl!
Doesn’t seem to make sense that a security guard would just go out of his way to get physical on an unsuspecting woman without some sort of incentive!
But hey – we guess stranger things have happened!
We’ll be very curious to hear how this all develops!
What do U think ?? Team Sean or Team Security?

Winona Ryder: Theft Case Interrupted
“Girl, Interrupted” star Winona Ryder will have to wait until Feb. 8 for prosecutors to decide if they will bring criminal charges against her following her Dec. 12 arrest for allegedly lifting nearly $ 5,000 in clothing, hair clips and accessories from the Beverly Hills branch of the Saks Fifth Avenue department store. Investigators also said the star, 30, was carrying drugs without the proper prescriptions. Dressed in a black skirt, white blouse and black sweater, reports Reuters, Ryder entered Beverly Hills Superior Court through a back entrance for a brief hearing before Judge Elden Fox. The jurist extended her bond pending further investigation of the case, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office told the news service. Ryder has yet to be formally charged, district attorney spokeswoman Jane Robinson said, adding: “We want to review all the possible evidence before we make a decision on this case.” Ryder’s attorney, Mark Geragos, said at the time that Ryder’s arrest stemmed from a “misunderstanding” with the store manager and predicted charges against her would be dismissed. He also foresaw no drug charges being filed against his client. “She had prescriptions. We have evidence to prove that,” Geragos told the New York Post on Thursday.

Fire destroys part of Tyler Perry’s studios; no injuries reported
ATLANTA– The structure of a large building at filmmaker Tyler Perry’s Atlanta studio is fine after part of it caught fire, sending flames into the night sky, authorities said.
There were no reports of injuries from the blaze that began shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday and burned through the building’s exterior surface, Atlanta Fire Capt. Jolyon Bundrige said.
“It was all in flames,” Dorothy Ware, who lives in a highrise apartment next door to the studio complex, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Flames shot as high as nearby trees, which are about as high as a six-storey building, Ware said.
“The building started popping,” Ware said. “Whatever the fire was hitting, was blowing up. There were plenty of sparks coming over here where we are.”
More than 100 firefighters responded to the blaze, and they were able to limit the damage because the building is broken up into sections, Bundrige told Atlanta station WSB-TV.
The cause of the four-alarm blaze and the amount of damage to the complex was not immediately known.
Perry was at the complex Tuesday night and spoke with Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran, Bundrige said. A spokesman for Perry– whose films include Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Why Did I Get Married? and Daddy’s Little Girls– didn’t immediately comment Tuesday evening.
The studio complex includes a 200,000-square-foot studio, five sound stages and a 400-seat theater in southwest Atlanta, according to its website.
In March, pop star Cee Lo performed for donors at a fundraiser for U.S President Barack Obama at the studios.
