Media advisory, Friday, August 31, 2012, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Summer Safety Initiative Neighbourhood Canvass

On Friday, August 31, 2012, between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., 11 Division officers working on the Summer Safety Initiative will be conducting a neighbourhood canvass at four addresses in the Division.

The media is invited to contact Staff Sergeant Rob Gregory, who will be leading the canvass, to accompany the officers by calling 416-808-1100.

Officers conducting the canvass of residents will be asking the following questions:

1) What do you feel is working when it comes to safety in your neighbourhood?

2) What is not working?

3) What can be done to make your complex safer?

4) How can the police help make your complex safer?

Residents are also being encouraged to contact the Toronto Police Service to report information to prevent and solve crime at the non-emergency number 416-808-2222, Emergency-911 or anonymously by submitting information to Toronto Crime Stoppers

Missing girl, Carissa Balkissoon, 15, Update, Police release third news release regarding missing girl

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance locating a missing girl.

Carissa Balkissoon, 15, was last seen on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at 9:30 a.m. in the Warden Avenue/Highway 401 area.

She is described as brown, 5’3”, 134 lbs., brown eyes with long, black, wavy hair.

Police are concerned for her safety.

She has not maintained communication with her family for the past few months which has caused concern for her family and police.

At this time, police do not suspect foul play.

Man charged with Voyeurism, Police appeal for witnesses, Photograph of accused released

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a voyeurism investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Friday, August 31, 2012, at 1:34 a.m., police responded to a radio call for reports of a person entering into vehicles on McInnes Crescent

- officers searched the area and located the accused,

- further investigation revealed that the accused had been taking photographs of women while standing outside their homes

Fray Adams, 44, of Toronto, is charged with:

1. Voyeurism
2. Mischief Wilfully Interfere with the Use, Enjoyment or Operation of Property
3. Carry Concealed Weapon

He is scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on Friday, August 31, 2012, room 412, 10 a.m.

Sexual Assault Alert, Christie Street/Bloor Street West

The Toronto Police Service is alerting the public to a sexual assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Thursday, August 23, 2012, at 10:40 p.m., a 27-year-old woman was walking northbound on Christie Street, when a man walked southbound past her, then quickly turned and sexually assaulted her from behind

- the woman shouted out at the man, causing him to run south on Christie Street

The suspect is described as having a dark-black complexion, 20-23, possibly wearing a red, baggy jersey-type shirt.

Man charged in sexual assault/personate peace officer/ extortion investigation Raymond Coles, 42, Police believe there may be more victims

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in a sexual assault investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Tuesday, August 27, 2012, a 51-year-old woman was contacted by a man identifying himself as an Immigration Officer

- he led the woman to believe that he needed to meet with her to deal with a case he was investigating involving her

- the following day the man met with the woman at a hotel on Evans Avenue

- while in a hotel room, the man sexually assaulted her and demanded money in exchange for having her immigration file closed and told her that she would be arrested by police due to her immigration problems if she were to report the assault to the police

On Thursday, August 30, 2012, Raymond Coles, 42, of Missisauga, surrendered to police. He is charged with:

1. Sexual Assault
2. Personate Peace Officer
3. Extortion

He was scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Friday, August 31, 2012, 10 a.m.

Police believe there may be more victims.

Missing boy located, Jung Soo Kim, 14

The Toronto Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance locating a missing boy.

Jung Soo Kim, 14, was last seen on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at 8 a.m., in the Parliament Street/Bloor Street East area.

He was located on Thursday, August 30, 2012.

Arrest made in sexual assault investigation, Islington Avenue/Bloor Street West

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in a sexual assault investigation.

As a direct result of the news release, the suspect was identified.

On Thursday, August 30, 2012, Hassan Rahimi, 50, of Toronto, was charged with Sexual Assault.

He is scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on October 12, 2012, room 202, 1 p.m.

Young Offender faces 15 charges in robbery/ break-and-enter investigation

A joint investigation between 55 Division and the Hold Up Squad has resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old boy.

It is alleged that:

- the accused broke into a house and attempted to break into two others

It is further alleged that:

- the accused broke into a house in the Beaches area, robbed a convenience store in the Leslieville area and sexually assaulted the female employee

On Wednesday, August 29, 2012, a 17-year-old boy, of Toronto, was charged with:

1. two counts of Attempt Break-and-Enter with Intent
2. four counts Fail/Refuse to Comply
3. Break-and-Enter with Intent
4. Obstruct Peace Officer
5. Possession of Burglar's Tools
6. Robbery
7. Disguise with Intent
8. Weapons Dangerous
9. Forcible Confinement
10. Sexual assault with a Weapon
11. Fail/Refuse to Comply Y.C.J.A.

He was scheduled to appear in court at 311 Jarvis Street on Friday, August 31, 2012, at 10 a.m.

Historical sexual assault investigation, Man charged with Indecent Assault Male, Heshi Nussbaum, 71, Police believe there may be more victims

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in a historical sexual assault investigation into sexual assaults alleged to have occurred between January 1972 and December 1975.

It is alleged that:

- the accused, while working as a teacher in a private religious school in the Bathurst Street/Steeles Avenue area, sexually assaulted a 12-year-old boy at the school and during a summer camp

- the assaults continued over a three-year period

On Wednesday, August 29, 2012, Heshi Nussbaum, 71, of Toronto, was charged with Indecent Assault Male.

He appeared in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at 2 p.m.

Police believe there may be more victims.
